United Drive reaches goal, disperses money this month
The Windom United Drive set a goal of $20,000 in 2012 and the fund drive reached its mark.
In fact, the drive was actually up about $500 from last year which will bring a smile to the faces of those in organizations who will receive this year's donations.
A total of $21,153 was grossed from this year's drive, while a total of $18,951 was dispersed to 39 organizations (after expenses were deducted and a small amount of interest was added).
The total dispersed for 2012 was $185 more than a year ago.
Of the 38 nonprofits which received their checks last week, six received at least $1,000 each, the same as a year ago.
However, the recipients of those larger dollar amounts took a little different look in 2012.
Heading the donor list were two newcomers to the list in 2012. The Business, Arts & Recreation Center received the largest amount, $2,017 while nonprofit Windom State Theatre Inc. received $1,795.
The other four organizations receiving at least $1,000 each are: American Red Cross, $1,702; Windom Area Sharing Center, $1,575; Meals With Wheels, $1,405; and Alzheimer's Association, $1,021.
For a complete list of recipients, see the story in the March 13 issue of the Cottonwood County Citizen on newsstands today.
