Longtime Citizen reporter Dave Fjeld was honored Friday morning as the 2013 Windom Area Schools Friend of Education.
The award is presented each year to a member of the community who goes above and beyond to promote and assist Windom Area Schools.
Fjeld has served as the Citizen general reporter for the past 14 years. Prior to that, he had served 12 years as sports editor of the Citizen. In his duties as general reporter, Fjeld reports and photographs numerous school activities, with a weekly page dedicated to the events going on at the Windom Area Schools and the people involved in the events. He also covers a wide array of community activities, including many involving the youth of the community.
In addition to his work to promote and cover Windom school activities, Fjeld is also lends a hand with various Windom athletics programs. Fjeld has served as the official scorer or clock keeper for Windom Eagle home basketball games and has run the scoreboard and occasionally done public address for Eagle home football games. Fjeld is also known as "The Voice of Island Park," serving as the public address announcer and scoreboard keeper for Eagle home baseball games.
Fjeld has also served several years as a leader for the AWANA program at Windom Evangelical Free Church and is a member of the Windom Area Baseball Association Board of Directors.
