Girls drop 2-1 heartbreaker
Morris-Benson 0-2-0 = 2 Windom Area 0-1-0 = 1 The Windom Area girls hockey team saw a chance to build a winning streak fall by the wayside Saturday afternoon, taking a 2-1 loss to Morris-Benson at the Windom Arena.
The Eagles jumped to a 1-0 lead early in the second period when Jolyssa Higley-Purrington took a centering pass from Addison Beaty and stuffed a shot into the net.
But Morris-Benson regrouped, scoring a minute later on a goal by Hanna Lindblad. The Storm then took the lead at the 7:07 mark of the second on a goal by Kamri Kalthoff.
The Eagles couldn't gain any traction back in the third period. After the Storm killed off an early Eagle power play, the Eagles found themselves trying to kill off three penalties in the period, resulting in the Storm outshooting Windom 7-5 for the period.
M-B outshot the Eagles 29-23 in the game. Eagle goalie Emily Steen finished with 27 saves.

Morris-Benson 1-3-2 = 6 Windom Area 3-5-2 = 10 A wild offensive game saw the Windom Eagles build a commanding lead and hang on late for a 10-6 win over Morris-Benson Saturday at the Windom Arena.
The Eagles raced to an 8-2 lead in the second period. The Storm cut the deficit to 8-4 by the end of the period before the teams traded goals in the third.
Zach Bartosh got the Eagles on the board with back-to-back goals in the first period. Devin Nielsen added a goal halfway through the first for a 3-1 Eagle lead.
Bartosh finished off a hat trick 57 seconds into the second period. After the Storm cut the deficit to 4-2, the Eagles reeled off four consecutive goals. Travis Janssen netted the first two in the run. Dylan Pigman added a goal and Nielsen netted a power play goal.
In the third, Bartosh netted his fourth goal of the game and Nielsen scored at the 14:33 mark to cap his first varsity career hat trick.
Kyle Luhmann added three assists in the Eagle win.
Windom outshot Morris-Benson 49-35 in the game. Ben Stubbe finished with 29 saves in the Eagle victory.
