Chargers edge Falcons

Red Rock Central battled from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth set, but Westbrook-Walnut Grove regained momentum late to claim a 3-2 win over the Falcons Thursday at Jeffers.

The Chargers dropped the first set before battling back to win the next two. But RRC answered, tying the match at 2-2.

WWG had a strong night at the service line, led by Dayna Comnick's 28-of-28 effort. Comnick added 16 kills and 22 digs in the win.

Paige Erickson added 14 kills and four ace serves on 17-of-19 serving. Abby Herding had 39 set assists, 18 digs and was 15-of-16 serving. Hailey Osland went 15-of-15 from the service line with two aces and added 13 kills and a block. Jordaan Joel finished with two blocks.

Brooke Rasmussen led RRC from the service line, going 20-of-21. She added 25 digs. Tegan Derickson had 16 set assists and 10 digs. Mikaela Smith finished 15-of-16 serving with two aces and had 19 set assists.

Fern Engen led the Falcons at the net with 10 kills and two blocks. Katie Larsen had eight kills and two blocks while Cassandra Erickson finished with seven kills.

Mt. Lake Area improved to .500 on the season Thursday with a solid 3-1 win at Edgerton Public.

Janessa Peters led the Wolverines at the net with 16 kills. Jordan Syverson added six kills. Peters and Kailee Heltemes each finished with two blocks.

Rachel Dukes had 22 set assists and four ace serves on 8-of-11 serving. Paige Brown was 22-of-24 serving with five aces while Briana Wolff was 15-of-16 serving with three aces.

Mikayla Falk finished with a team-high 16 digs. Wolff finished with 11 digs in the win.

The Windom Eagle volleyball team tried to battle back from a sluggish start Thursday night, but the comeback ran out of gas in the fifth set of a 3-2 loss to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at Tracy.

The Eagles struggled with consistency in the first two sets, falling behind early in both. Windom battled back to win the third and fourth sets, but wasn't able to close the match as TMB broke a 14-14 tie with back-to-back points.

Hali Tasler led the Eagles with 20 kills in the loss. Holly Larson added 15 kills and three solo blocks.

Shelby Mattson had 10 kills, five blocks and 31 set assists. Miki Bolin finished with 15 set assists. Jasmine Carlson had a team-high 42 digs.
