Busy week for area firefighters
The burning ban was removed from Cottonwood County after Monday night's rainfall, but not before a busy week for area firefighters.
The Windom Fire Department was called out to several fires in the past seven days. It started with a corn stubble fire a few miles west of town.
Windom Fire Chief Dan Ortmann said about 75 acres of corn stubble was destroyed in that blaze.
Then, last Thursday, firefighters were called to three fires: a small grove fire along Highway 86, southwest of Windom, a stove fire in Windom and a grass fire two miles west of Windom near Highway 62. The latter fire was the only one of significance, claiming a good chunk of a Waterfowl Production Area.
