Donations to Coats for Kids being accepted thru Nov. 1

Cottonwood County Coats for Kids, a project that annually helps families provide children with proper winter clothing, is preparing for another distribution in 2012 and is seeking your help.

The volunteer organization's goal is to get good winter clothing to children who may otherwise go without.

"The need is great again this year and donations of winter wear or cash are very much appreciated," says Kate Roberts, Cottonwood County RSVP coordinator and a volunteer for Coats for Kids.

Last year's drive gave away over 300 coats plus other winter accessories to children from Cottonwood County.
There is a need for clean coats, snow pants, snow suits, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, socks, boots and monetary donations to purchase items. All donated items should be free of rips and stains and should have usable buttons and zippers.

Infant through 3XL adult sizes are needed. Especially needed are children's boots, snow pants and coats, size 6 to 16.

Donations can be dropped off at various locations in Windom and Mt. Lake. Donations are being accepted through Nov. 1.

Distribution dates are Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the new gym lobby at Windom Area Middle High School, and Nov. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m., at Mt. Lake Public School.

The free event is sponsored by Early Childhood Initiatives in Mt. Lake and Windom, Mt. Lake and Windom Community Education, RSVP, Community Health, Cottonwood County Family Service Collaborative, Circles of Support, Windom Area Chamber of Commerce and other partners.

Those families wishing to receive clothing through Coats for Kids must preregister by calling Connie or Roberta, toll-free, at (800) 247-1401, or 831-1987. Children must be present at the distribution to insure correct fitting.

The distribution may not fit all of a family's needs, but it will supplement what a family is able to purchase itself.

For more information, or for those who would like to schedule an appointment, call Connie or Roberta at the phone numbers listed.

To see a list of drop-off locations, see the story in the Oct. 3 issue of the Cottonwood County Citizen on newsstands today.
